Comments on: TYR Valkyrie Speedworks Review: Speed Does, in Fact, Work

I bought these a while back because on paper, I thought they could be a true Speed competitor, but I have some specific issues/complaints:

* The plate is too aggressive/stiff
* There’s way too much volume in the upper
* Due to the aggressive rocker and how the plate is built into the shoe, you can sometimes feel like your toes are overhanging the plate like they’re curling right over the end of it – when that happens, it’s super uncomfortable.

The last photo shows the heel pretty well: it’s not obscenely narrow, but because the shoe is on the firmer end, there might be a tendency for it to roll out from underneath you on turns if you’re a big heel striker. I personally tend to land more midfoot so unfortunately I can’t say definitively.

I am this close to picking up the Speedworks for tempo training for my first marathon. But the comment about the narrow heel worries me. Is the heel of the Valkyrie Carbon Elite any more stable?

Many race/speed shoes have that narrow heel that I loathe, shoes like the Atreyu Race Model and the legendary Endorphin Speed 2. No bueno for me. Might have to go Topo Specter 2 for my summer tempo work—and maybe race day. Can’t wait to see the reviews, it’s almost here.
